What Does Valentine's Day Look Like In 2021?
Valentine's Day may look a little different this year. Many of us usually plan to celebrate as a couple or as friends, marking the occasion with romantic getaways or a girls night out in our favourite bars and restaurants. The irony of being away from the people we love on Valentines could get us down, but maybe this year we can rethink and redefine what we do to celebrate and why.
You may not be able to celebrate Valentine's Day with your Valentine as you planned but…
If there is one thing that 2020 has taught us is that it’s the little things that matter. If you are able to be with your partner on Valentine's Day, don’t be too disheartened if it hasn’t gone as planned, keep things simple and prioritise spending quality time together. Focus on what’s important - your appreciation of each other. Why not try recreating your own brunch or favourite meal out at home or a spa day in the comfort of your own lounge. Get creative and check out more ideas here.
Let's be honest, Zoom fatigue is real, virtual dates have perhaps lost their novelty over the past year or so, but now is all the more reason to give it a bit of a resurrection. If you are spending Valentine's away from your loved one, cooking together or opening gifts on facetime is a small but meaningful way to show your appreciation and spread the love. You won’t be the only ones trying to make do, it is the thought that counts.
Share the love with the people you love…
Valentine's Day is not all about romantic love. After a year like 2020, this time more than ever, sharing the love with the people you care about is so important. Send messages of love and kindness to those who have helped you get through the last year. An evening out with your friends is probably well overdue, but don’t underestimate how fun it is to make your own cocktails, click here for some of Jamie Oliver’s simple cocktail recipes to try out over Facetime.
Be your own Valentine, show yourself some love
Don’t worry 35% of Brits are currently single and Valentine's Day doesn’t have to be a Bridget Jones moment. Feeling lonely because you are single and alone on Valentine's Day? That really is old news, this year it’s all about self-love and finding happiness within yourself. Finding peace and the benefits in spending some time alone is something we should embrace and feel empowered by, read our Journal Post: A bit of me time – The Positives Of Being Alone.
