Do You Know Your Hygge From Your Ubuntu? - 6 Lifestyle Concepts Around The World That You Should Know About.

Slow living is a micro trend in adopting conscious changes to consumer behaviour.  People from all over the world have adapted this philosophy into their own cultural traditions to create a more mindful and simple approach to their lifestyle.

We are taking a page out of the book from different cultures and countries’ lifestyles to inspire people to have a happier and mindful approach towards their own.

1. Hygge – Denmark

With Denmark being ranked as one of the happiest countries to live in, we aren’t surprised they have something to do with the hygge concept.

Typically meaning a feeling of cosy contentment and finding happiness through the simple things in life. All about simple pleasures, the Danish prioritises taking care of themselves, having moments to relax, spending quality time with the people we love and being in an atmosphere where we feel safe, which all leads to happiness and having a mindful lifestyle.

2. Sisu – Finland

The Finnish concept of sisu is the art of inner strength. With a concept of a “can do” attitude, it encompasses a resilience and determination in the face of adversity. The word originated from the word “sisus” which means “guts” which translates to having the guts to take action even if the odds are against you or if something almost seems hopeless. It’s about having that strength to carry on and persevere.

For more information; This is Finland explains sisu as the key to life, love and success.

3. Ubuntu – Africa

The “belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity”. A beautiful and old concept, Ubuntu means “I am because you are” with its meaning teaching us about a more interconnected world that embodies the idea of connection, community and mutual caring for all.

Lagom means just the right amount; not too much, not too little. It’s about finding a balance that is incorporated into the daily life of simple living. Sweden also known as one of the happiest countries to live in with many Scandinavians living a balanced lifestyle in “a more manageable, comfortable, balanced way of doing things” as said my Niki Brantmark.
