7 Skincare Tips For Spotty Skin

How do breakouts happen? When pores get blocked by dirt or debris in the form of old skin cells that haven’t been removed. As the pore is blocked, sebum gets trapped and builds up, causing those pesky swollen spots we all get from time to time.

What could be causing them? Fluctuating hormones, stress and genetics, your environment and your diet and lifestyle (in other words, a lot!) are all factors which could be causing spotty skin.

Here are 7 tips and tricks to tackle this skin concern…

  • Cleanse Morning And Night

  • Don’t skimp on cleansing the face twice a day, morning and night. Wash away any overnight moisturisers and excess oil that might have accumulated overnight. Once your skin is cleansed in the morning, you’re ready and prepped for your next skincare steps to penetrate the skin and absorb effectively. For nighttime, it's important to wash away any dirt and debris that has built up throughout the day, particularly from SPF and external factors such as pollution.

  • Double Cleanse

  • We recommend you double cleanse to remove that pesky layer of make-up and sweat. Any products you apply after will not work as well if your face is not clean. Our Daily Base™ allows for a double cleanse and is formulated to replace your daily cleanser, moisturiser and make-up remover in one.

  • Wash Your Towels And Bedding

  • You should wash your pillow, bedding and towel at least once a week, preferably every few days but a lot of us are busy, understandably! And wash your face cloth after 3 uses maximum. While you sleep, your body sheds skin cells and any excess oil, dirt and debris transfers directly onto your pillow, this is the best way to prevent you directly rubbing bacteria onto your skin which can cause breakouts.

  • Stop Touching Your Face!

  • Did you know you probably touch your face over 16 times an hour? I bet you don’t even realise when you’re doing it! Hands can harbour germs, specifically from our phones and the surfaces we touch. Keep on top of hand washing to help minimise the impact of this and make a conscious effort to not always touch your face!

  • Say No To Fad Hacks (Ahem, Tik Tok!)

  • Skin icing, pore vacuuming, clean beauty, slugging, to name a few, are recent viral Tik Tok trends, it's important to do your own research and don’t instantly trust what others claim. A lot of these trends can clog pores or strip the skin which eventually lead to more breakouts. Stick to simple skincare and trust advice only from skin experts and professionals, this is the quickest and most effective way to reach your skin goals.

  • Tailored To You Skincare

  • Want to know about skin care for spots? Use a Skin Diagnostic and discover a skincare routine that’s right for you, it will ask what your top 3 skin concerns are; targeting these directly with specific products will mean you’ll see results much faster. For example, if your biggest skin concern is breakouts, based on this and your answers to the other questions, it will recommend you products to target this.

No need to worry about finding a moisturiser which is too greasy or a cleanser which is too harsh (like a lot of drugstore ones which are packed with ingredients that strip the skin and disrupt the natural skin barrier), our Skin Diagnostic will analyse your skin holistically.

  • Keep Up The Moisturising

  • If your skin is prone to excessive dryness, your skin may overcompensate by overproducing sebum oil which can result in breakouts. Use skin care for spots and look for a moisturiser which is lightweight, these aren’t heavy so are unlikely to clog pores. Our Daily Base™ Aqua Gel is perfect for this, featuring a lightweight, water like texture with a refreshing, cool effect, whilst effectively cleansing.

Our Skin SOS Trio will help you take back control of your skin. What’s included? Our Daily Base™ Aqua Gel, Power TonIQ™Anti Blemish Essence and Power TonIQ™ Oil Control Essence contain the perfect blend of ingredients to manage blemish and breakouts, giving you reassurance that your skin is in good hands.
